Privacy Policy

ComparePlants.uk is operated by Ewan Norrie, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version

We compare plant prices across UK nurseries and retailers. We earn a commission when you buy through some of our links. We use analytics to understand how the site is used. We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising networks.

What we collect

Analytics — Google Analytics 4. Pages you visit, how you arrived, approximate location (country and region, not street address), device and browser type. Google processes this on our behalf. We use it to understand which plants and pages people actually want.

Session analytics — Microsoft Clarity.Clarity records how people interact with pages — scrolling, clicks, and playback of anonymised sessions — so we can find parts of the site that do not work. Clarity masks text input by default. Microsoft processes this on our behalf.

Outbound clicks.When you click through to a retailer, we record which plant, which retailer, and the time. We also store a one-way scrambled fingerprint of your connection so we can count visitors and keep the site secure. It cannot be turned back into your IP address or used to identify you, and we remove it entirely after 30 days — see “How long we keep things” below.

Site search and page views.We log the pages you visit and the searches you run on the site itself, so we can see which plants and pages get used. These records do not carry your IP address or any other identifier — we cannot tell one visitor's searches from another's, and could not answer a request to find or delete “your” records even if asked, because nothing in them points back to you.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address, where you subscribed from, and the date. Nothing else. We send with Resend. Every email has an unsubscribe link and we act on it immediately.

Enquiries. If you email us, we keep the email and our reply.

What we do not collect.We have no accounts and no logins. We do not ask for your name, address, phone number or payment details, and we never see them — every purchase happens on the retailer's own site under their terms and their privacy policy, not ours.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar storage for:

• Necessary— making the site work. Always on.
• Analytics— Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, as described above. These run only if you accept them in the cookie banner.

How we make money, and what that means for you

ComparePlants.uk is free to use. We earn in two ways, and both are disclosed on the page where they appear:

Affiliate commission. Some retailer links are affiliate links, mostly through the Awin network. If you buy after clicking one, the retailer pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects ranking or price. Results are ordered by price and availability, and a retailer paying us nothing appears on exactly the same terms as one that does.

Featured Nursery placements. Nurseries can pay for a labelled placement. These are always marked as sponsored, always time-limited, and never mixed into price comparison results as though they were organic.

Sharing

We share data with the analytics, email and affiliate-network providers named above, and with the infrastructure providers who host and serve the site. That is the full list.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Where your data goes

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens it is covered by the UK-approved safeguards those providers publish (the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses).

How long we keep things

• Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, then we keep a suppression record so we do not email you again by mistake.
• Analytics: Google Analytics: 14 months.
• Outbound click records:the connection fingerprint is removed after 30 days; the underlying record (which plant, which retailer, when) is deleted after 13 months. Before deletion we roll the day's records into an anonymous daily total — a single count with nothing that could identify anyone — which we keep indefinitely so we can compare one year's traffic to the next.
• Site search and page-view records:since these never carry an identifier, the same 13-month raw window and indefinite anonymous daily total apply, without a separate 30-day step — there is no identifier in them to remove.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month.

Children

The site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

We update this page when what we do changes, and the date at the top tells you when that last happened.
